Brussels to Zaventem: when to leave for your flight

Getting to Brussels Airport shouldn't be the stressful part of your trip. A pre-booked taxi gives you a set price before you leave home and a driver who's already tracking your flight — no last-minute scrambling for a cab outside the terminal.

What determines your fare

Distance from your pickup address is the main factor, but so is the vehicle type. A standard sedan works fine for one or two passengers with normal luggage. Traveling as a family or a small business group changes the math — you'll want a larger vehicle from the start rather than discovering at pickup that everyone won't fit.

Unlike metered city taxis, the fare here is agreed before the ride begins. Nothing changes if you hit congestion near the Ring or the airport access roads.

Realistic travel times

This route runs through some of the busiest stretches of road around the capital, so timing matters more than distance. A ride that takes 20 minutes at 10am on a Tuesday can easily take 45 minutes at 8am on a Monday. If your flight leaves early morning or late afternoon, build in extra buffer — arriving at the terminal with time to spare beats sprinting through security.

For most international departures, aim to leave your pickup point at least 3 hours before boarding, factoring in check-in and security lines that grow longer during peak holiday periods.

Getting picked up (both directions)

Heading to the airport, your driver comes to the exact address you provide: home, hotel, or office.

Coming back into Brussels, things work differently. If you give your flight number when you book, the pickup follows the actual landing time. No phone calls, no explaining yourself at arrivals: your driver is simply there when you walk out, holding a sign with your name.

A few practical things worth knowing

If you're checking oversized items — a bike box, ski equipment, or extra suitcases from a long trip — mention it when you book rather than at the curb. It's the difference between a smooth pickup and a driver who has to turn you away for a bigger vehicle.

Traveling with a young child? A car seat can be arranged in advance based on the child's age or weight, so it's already installed when you arrive. Pets are welcome too, either in a carrier or secured on a leash in the back seat — just flag it during booking.
